Sega’s Dream Lives On

Although it’s been official for years, Sega Japan will make it officially official in a little over five months when they cease their internal repair services. Come September 28th, the Dreamcast will be dead…or will it?
Looking back on this fantastic console, its only real problem was timing. Sega was simply too far ahead of the curve, and many of the Dreamcast’s innovations laid the foundation of the video game landscape we see today.
Online gaming? Yeah, the Dreamcast was ready to do that right out of the box. You think Guitar Hero was the first to perfect the music and accessory combination? Then you never tried Samba de Amigo. You say the Wii revolutionized gaming with its motion-sensing controllers? Check out Sega Bass Fishing with the rod controller before declaring that.
And then there’s The Typing of the Dead - a stroke of brilliance that no one has been able to duplicate.
Sigh…if only the open world of Shenmue had allowed for illicit activities such as car jacking and street shooting. Then this article might have been about the most successful console the world had ever seen.
